Macron has called for a boost to the production of electric cars in Europe

"The European Union should offer more active support to European car manufacturers and component suppliers to create their electric cars that can compete with the products of the USA and China," French President Emmanuel Macron said in an interview with "Les Echos" newspaper.

Macron noted with regret that some significant European leasing and rental companies are switching to wholesale purchases of Chinese electric cars. He emphasized that to develop European products, it is necessary to localize the production of electric vehicle components as much as possible to avoid dependence on foreign suppliers. For example, he cited the joint establishment of factories for producing lithium batteries extracted from the mines of France with Germany, the first batches of which will be made in the coming months.
