Negotiations will continue on the American and Russian platforms

Radar Armenia's interlocutor is Areg Kochinyan, the Security Policy Research Center president.

- Philip Ricker, Senior Adviser on Negotiations in the Caucasus of the US Department of State, met with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and emphasized the continued support of the US for direct negotiations between Azerbaijan and Armenia. How will you interpret it?

- Basically, Riker is saying that the USA continues to support the efforts to sign a peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Moreover, according to the text of the announcement, American, Russian, or European platforms are not distinguished. But there is still such a distinction, and this statement is more protocol than content.

- The fact that Aliyev did not want to meet with RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in the presence of the French president does indicate that Aliyev is also in favor of continuing negotiations with Russian proposals.

- This speaks of three things. First, this is a response to the resolution adopted by the French senate from Azerbaijan. Secondly, in the event of a quadrilateral meeting, the question of extending the terms of the European civil mission should have been raised, which Azerbaijan is against. And finally, this is an opportunity for Azerbaijan to show Russia one more time that they consider it much more appropriate to work in the Russian format, especially when we see that the work in the Russian form, especially in the direction of the opening of communications, has significantly activated the work.

- Now, on which platform will the negotiations continue, and, in your opinion, which platform is beneficial for Armenia?

- The US platform is more beneficial for Armenia. Negotiations will continue with both of them. Time will tell which negotiators will show enough will, tenacity, and capacity to invest resources in talks to bring their platform to a final document.
