Lionel Messi, the captain of the Argentine national team, has surpassed Diego Maradona in the number of goals scored in the World Cup.

The Argentinian scored a goal in the 35th minute of the 1/8 finals of the World Championship in Qatar against the Australian team. For him, this goal was the 9th in the world championships.

Regarding the number of goals scored in the World Cup, Messi overtook the world champion Maradona and took second place in the Argentine national team. The record belongs to Gabriel Batistuta, who scored ten goals.
