The European Union welcomed the return of Armenian prisoners

Toivo Klaar, the EU's special representative for the crisis in the South Caucasus and Georgia, welcomed the release of five Armenian prisoners of war.

"The news about the release of five Armenian detainees by Azerbaijan today, after the meeting of the leaders in Brussels on August 31, is welcome. It is an important humanitarian gesture, and it is also noteworthy that the handover took place without intermediaries," Klaar wrote on his Twitter microblog.

The National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia reported last night that the Azerbaijani side returned five prisoners of war to Armenia. Earlier, the Azerbaijani media wrote that the Supreme Court of Azerbaijan "softened the sentences of four Armenian citizens and released them."
