China's population has shrunk for the first time in 60 years

On January 17, the State Statistics Department of China reported that at the end of December last year, the most densely populated country in the world, China, had 1.411 billion people, which is 850 thousand less than the previous year. Thus, in 2022, the country's population was reduced for the first time in 60 years.

The birth rate was just 6.77 per 1,000 people, the lowest rate in decades.

In 2022, the number of births (9.56 million) was lower than the number of deaths (10.41 million).
