Russia and China plan to build a nuclear power plant on the Moon

Russia and China may install a nuclear power plant (NPP) on the surface of the Moon as part of the construction of the International Lunar Research Station (ILRS). Reuters learned about this from Pei Zhaoyu, the chief engineer of the space mission, who presented in Shanghai.

In addition to the NPP, giant solar panels will also power the lunar base.

According to China's plans, the foundation for the construction of a residential base at the south pole of the Moon should be laid by the automatic station "Chane-8", the launch of which is scheduled for 2028. In the first stage, a lunar rover will be sent to the Moon to study the resources and relief of the Earth's satellite. In the second stage, a control center for the lunar station is planned to be established. The creation of the lunar station, which will be able to be controlled remotely, is scheduled to be completed by 2036.
