Netanyahu's plane bypassed the airspace of several countries

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's plane traveled 400 kilometers longer than usual from Hungary to the United States, avoiding the airspace of countries that could execute an arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court, Al Jazeera reported, citing the Haaretz newspaper.

In November last year, the ICC issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and his former defense minister for alleged war crimes against Palestinians in Gaza.

According to the Haaretz report, Israel fears that Ireland, Iceland, and the Netherlands may take measures to execute the warrants.

Netanyahu is currently in Washington for a meeting with President Trump. He arrived from Hungary, where he held talks with Prime Minister Viktor Orban.

Before Netanyahu visited Hungary, Orban's government announced its withdrawal from the Rome Statute, which obliges Orbán; he had also made it clear before Netanyahu's arrival that his government would not execute ICC arrest warrants, even though Hungary's decision to withdraw from the ICC would not take effect until a year later.
