US President Donald Trump has signed a new executive order calling for “widespread cuts” across all departments and agencies, except law enforcement and immigration agencies.
According to the Department of Efficiency (DOGE) plans, reducing the number of government employees by 5-10% is necessary to achieve significant cost savings.
Trump has given DOGE broad authority to determine the number of employees in departments. A DOGE representative must approve any appointment to a government position. Elon Musk’s employees will have the right to reject departmental requests to add or retain leadership positions.
Many lawsuits have followed President Trump’s efforts to reduce the number of government employees.
