Google said in a statement that Google Maps will change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of the Americas when it is officially updated in the US Geographic Names System.
The changes will be visible in the US, but the name will remain the Gulf of Mexico in Mexico. Users outside of these two countries will see both names on Google Maps.
The Trump administration's Department of the Interior announced on Friday that it has officially changed the name of the Gulf of Mexico and the highest peak in North America. Denali in Alaska has been renamed McKinley. It is worth noting that it was named in honor of the 25th President of the United States, William McKinley.
Google Maps will also make changes to the name of the mountain.
