Gerasimov had an "extremely unusual" telephone conversation with the American side. NYT

ABC and the New York Times reported that the Russian Chief of Staff, Valery Gerasimov, had an "extremely unusual" phone call with US Joint Chiefs General Charles Brown last week.

As ABC reports, Gerasimov called Brown on November 27 and warned about the upcoming test launch of hypersonic missiles from Russian warships in the Mediterranean Sea. He offered the American ships to retreat to a safe distance. On December 3, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation announced publicly about this test, which took place in the eastern part of the Mediterranean Sea.

According to the New York Times, Gerasimov also told his American counterpart that the test of the new missile, which the Kremlin calls Oreshnik, was planned long before the Biden administration permitted Ukraine to use the ATACMS missile strike as a response to the first ATACMS attack on Russian territory.

ABC and the New York Times reported the content of the conversation from anonymous Pentagon sources: Brown's press secretary, Capt. Jeryl Dorsey confirmed the call and added, "at General Gerasimov's request, General Brown has agreed not to release the content of the call on his initiative," NYT quoted.

Moscow has not reported anything about this conversation yet.
