Macron criticized Israel and called for restraint

French President Emmanuel Macron spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday. Expressing solidarity with Israel and reiterating France's call for the release of hostages held by Hamas, Macron reiterated the importance of an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and expressed concern over Israel's actions at al-Shifi hospital.

Macron has again announced his disagreement with the military operations in Rafah. He noted that any forced displacement of the population of Gaza would be a war crime under international law and that the future of Gaza lies within the framework of a Palestinian state under the responsibility of the Palestinian Authority.
