Turkey expects "clear steps" from Finland and Sweden

Today, Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar announced, "Turkey expects that Sweden and Finland will take concrete steps towards becoming NATO members, as the propaganda of terrorism in these countries continues.

"We are closely following the situation in Sweden and Finland. Unfortunately, some subversive activities still exist in those countries. We expect Sweden and Finland to take concrete steps," Akar told reporters.

Akar announced this before the meeting with Finnish Defense Minister Antti Kaikkonen. During the talks in the Ankara capital, Akar and Kaikkonen will discuss bilateral defense and security issues and Finland's NATO membership process.

Spurred by Russia's aggression against Ukraine, Finland and Sweden abandoned decades of neutrality and formally applied to NATO in May to join the alliance.
