Kazakhstan confiscated $230 million in valuables from Nazarbayev's cousin

On Wednesday, the anti-corruption agency of Kazakhstan announced that Kazakhstan law enforcement officers had returned precious stones and jewelry worth more than 230 million dollars to the country in the case of money laundering against the nephew of the republic's first president, Nursultan Nazarbayev, Kairat Satibaldi.

It was found that Satibaldi invested 300 million dollars in foreign securities. That money should be transferred to the budget of Kazakhstan shortly.

On September 26, the Kazakh court sentenced him to six years in prison in the embezzlement case. On March 13, Kazakhstan's anti-corruption service arrested Satibaldi on suspicion of abusing official powers and embezzling the funds of "Kazakhtelecom" OJSC. On March 17, an investigation was started against him and his ex-wife, Gulmira, in the case of disrupting commercial business activity and embezzling it.
