"The leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia can meet in any format useful for them." US Dept. of State

During the daily briefings, Vendant Patel, the spokesperson of the US State Department, announced, "So, to backtrack a bit, the Secretary of State has emphasized that the United States is committed to the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace talks. We have encouraged the two leaders to meet in whatever format is most helpful to them. We believe direct dialogue is key to solving these problems and achieving lasting peace. There is no greater supporter of the sovereignty and independence of the three countries in the South Caucasus than the USA."
