Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan met with Yoshihide Sekimoto, Director of the Tokyo Center for Spatial Information Science. CSIS is a leading interdisciplinary research center in Japan, specializing in spatial data, urban informatics, and smart cities.
During the meeting, Mayor Avinyan presented to the guests the reforms initiated in various areas of the urban economy. He noted that Yerevan is actively moving along the path of digital transformation.
"This means modernizing urban governance using digital tools, improving transportation and infrastructure, better preparing for risks, and ensuring that sustainability is the cornerstone of every decision. Geographic information systems and spatial data analysis are of great importance on this path. They allow us to plan the city better, effectively manage resources, and make the lives of Yerevan residents more comfortable," the mayor noted, adding that the city attaches great importance to practical cooperation with global partners on this path.
Welcoming the Yerevan Mayor's approaches to city governance, Yoshihide Sekimoto, Director of the Tokyo Spatial Information Science Center, noted that they are also ready to transfer to Yerevan the knowledge and experience they have in the field of smart city research.
