Today, Yerevan Mayor Hrachya Sargsyan announced his resignation at an extraordinary procedural meeting. Radar Armenia spoke with Ashot Sargsyan, a My Step faction of the Yerevan Council of Elders member, about the events in Yerevan City Hall.
According to him, Hrachya Sargsyan, as the mayor, was quite an efficient worker and, in general, did little in terms of the Yerevan administration. "And the resignation was his personal decision, and he considers it more correct," said Sargsyan.
When asked what political developments are expected in Yerevan, Ashot Sargsyan, a member of the Council of Elders, did not rule out the scenario of early elections.
"I do not exclude anything; there may likely be early elections. As of now, he will be acting temporarily until a final decision is made."
Ashot Sargsyan did not specify a specific term for how long the acting mayor will lead the city, saying that the time can be from a week to a month or even the end. "Let's see, in any case; it is not excluded that there will be extraordinary elections."
