The Moldovan Foreign Ministry has begun the necessary procedures for the republic's complete withdrawal from the Commonwealth of Independent States, Moldovan Foreign Minister Mihail Popshoi announced.
He noted that the ministry is currently developing a document on the abrogation of the agreements that underpinned the creation of the international organization, in particular, the CIS Founding Agreement and its annex, as well as the CIS Charter.
"With the abrogation of these three fundamental agreements, the Republic of Moldova will officially cease to be part of the CIS. And this process has already begun. We made this decision recently. The approval process has begun," Popshoi said on Radio Moldova.
According to him, after the start of the new parliamentary session, the abrogation documents will be submitted to lawmakers for review.
"We will probably complete the government processes in mid-February. "After that, the parliament will make this decision," he noted, adding that if the legislative body approves the cancellation of the three founding agreements, and the president approves them after completing the technical stages, Moldova will no longer be part of the CIS.
