Videos from Tehran morgue show brutal crackdown on protests in Iran - BBC

Shocking new videos have been circulating online from a Tehran morgue, showing long rows of bodies, bloodied floors, and crowds searching for their loved ones.

These are the aftermath of the Iranian authorities’ brutal crackdown on protests.

BBC Verify and the BBC Persian service have analysed and confirmed the authenticity of the videos, but are not publishing them due to the extremely violent and bloody footage they contain. The videos show the brutality with which the authorities have cracked down on the protests that began on December 28, which first erupted in Tehran and then spread across the country.

Many of the bodies show visible injuries. Many of the bags have dates of birth, and one of the victims was just 16 years old.

The total number of people killed in the protests is unknown. The US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) estimates the death toll at more than 2,500. This week, an Iranian official told Reuters that around 2,000 people had been killed, blaming their deaths on “terrorists.”
