Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said that half of the city’s apartment buildings, nearly 6,000 buildings, were left without heating due to damage to the capital’s critical infrastructure caused by the massive Russian attack.
The mayor urged residents to temporarily leave the city if possible to find alternative energy sources.
He added that the nighttime assault on Kyiv was the most painful of the attacks on critical infrastructure.
Ukrainian media also reported that water was being drained from buildings’ heating systems in the capital to prevent pipes from bursting.
This is necessary to avoid significant damage to pipes and radiators during a power outage.
