Giorgi Gakharia was arrested in Georgia and is hiding in Germany. I don’t know whether Germany is following legal procedures, but I think Gakharia should be returned to Georgia, Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili said.
The speaker insisted he was unaware of the extradition process.
“The fact that the wanted Gakharia is hiding in Berlin and is even being financed from various sources in Germany raises questions and suspicions,” Papuashvili added.
It should be noted that the Prosecutor General’s Office of Georgia has opened a criminal case against Gakharia. According to the charges, the former head of government faces up to 13 years in prison. In November last year, the Tbilisi City Court issued a decision to issue an arrest warrant for Gakharia in absentia.
