US President Donald Trump announced that, following lengthy, complex negotiations with senators, members of Congress, ministers, and other political representatives, he had decided to set the US military budget for 2027 at $1.5 trillion rather than $1 trillion.
According to Trump, this step is necessary to ensure the country's security "in these distraught and dangerous times."
Trump noted that, if not for the tariffs imposed on other countries and the "unprecedentedly large revenues" they generate, the military budget would remain around $1 trillion. However, the revenues from tariffs, which he previously considered impossible, allow not only to increase military spending to $1.5 trillion but also to reduce the national debt.
In addition, Trump stated that such a financial policy would also allow for the payment of "significant dividends" to middle-income US citizens, whom he called "patriots." In the statement, Donald Trump harshly criticized the current administration, calling it "the worst in the history of the country."
