Clashes in Aleppo: At least four dead

At least four people, including three civilians and one soldier, were killed in clashes in northern Aleppo on Tuesday, Reuters reported.

The government and the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have blamed each other for the violence. The Syrian Defense Ministry said the SDF had shelled army positions and residential areas. At the same time, the SDF denied the allegations and said the casualties were the result of indiscriminate shelling by pro-government forces.

Clashes have resumed in the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyeh neighborhoods. Local authorities said talks were underway with Damascus to ease tensions. Residents fear large-scale killings.

In response, the governor of Aleppo canceled operations at schools, universities, and government institutions on Wednesday. Aleppo airport has suspended flights for 24 hours.

The clashes come as the Syrian government and the SDF try to implement a deal to integrate Kurdish forces, which was supposed to be completed by the end of 2025, but there has been no progress. Both sides blame each other for the delays.

Failure to integrate could lead to new violence and even intervention by Turkey, which threatens to launch operations against Kurdish forces.
