Aldrich Ames, the most famous American agent of the KGB of the USSR, has died in a US prison at the age of 84.

Ames was arrested in 1994 and sentenced to life in prison for espionage for working for the Soviet Union and Russia.

According to investigators, he disrupted more than 100 US intelligence operations and revealed the identities of more than 30 agents working for the West. According to US intelligence agencies, at least 10 CIA sources (agents) were killed as a result of his activities.

Ames began cooperating with Soviet intelligence in 1985. In the KGB, he was known by the code name "Kolokol". Over the years, he received about $ 2.5 million for the information he provided. However, his official salary was about $70,000 per year.

Aldrich Ames worked for the CIA since 1962. At the end of his career, he headed the Soviet Counterintelligence Directorate.
