More than a dozen journalists have been arrested in the Venezuelan capital, Caracas, for covering events in the country, including a rally in support of ousted President Nicolas Maduro and the inauguration of a new parliament, the country’s press association said.
Fourteen of the detainees were later released, but one, a foreign journalist, has been deported.
The SNTP said 11 people were among those arrested. They work for international media outlets and one for a national outlet.
Venezuela’s information ministry, which is responsible for government relations, did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the arrests. The communications ministry also did not respond to a request for comment.
The arrests of the journalists come after U.S. forces captured Maduro in a nighttime raid over the weekend.
