Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov has appointed his 20-year-old son, Akhmad Kadyrov, as acting deputy prime minister, while retaining his position as minister of sports.
According to Kadyrov, the changes were made at the suggestion of the government head, Magomed Daudov. The Chechen leader announced the new appointments on his Telegram channel, calling them “minor personnel changes.”
Kadyrov did not elaborate on whether his son’s appointment was related to his poor health. On New Year’s Eve, media reported that Kadyrov had been hospitalized in Moscow ahead of a session of the State Council. This has not been officially confirmed.
