Zelensky appoints Kirill Budanov as head of presidential administration

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has appointed Kirill Budanov, head of the Main Intelligence Directorate, as head of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine.

Zelensky wrote on social networks that he had met with Kirill Budanov and offered him the position of head of the Presidential Administration. According to him, Ukraine should currently focus more on security issues, the development of defense and security forces, and the diplomatic direction of negotiations, and the presidential administration should ensure the implementation of these state priorities.

“Kirill has special experience in these areas and sufficient determination to achieve results,” Zelensky noted.

The president also announced that he had instructed the newly appointed head, in cooperation with Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umerov and other relevant leaders and institutions, to update and submit for approval the strategic foundations of Ukraine’s defense and development, as well as further steps.

Lieutenant General Kirill Budanov, 39, has headed the Main Intelligence Directorate since 2020.

Former Chief of Staff to the President, Andrey Yermak, resigned in late November amid corruption allegations.
