Latvia has built a 280-kilometer fence on its border with Russia

According to the Delfi portal, Latvia has completed construction of a 280-kilometer fence along its border with Russia. According to the company “Valsts nekustamie īpašumi” (VNI), responsible for the construction of the wall, the structure provides a continuous barrier in the areas specified in the technical design. Currently, the construction of border infrastructure is underway, including patrol paths, pedestrian bridges over swamps, watchtowers, and other engineering structures. The total cost of the project is estimated at 17.9 million euros. The main construction work is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2026.

Latvian Minister of the Interior Rihards Kozlovskis announced that high-tech equipment is currently being installed on the border to create a “modern border guard” in the eastern part of the European Union. Finance Minister Arvils Aseradens added that the completion of the border fence and the development of infrastructure will strengthen the operational capabilities of the border service. Latvia previously installed a 145-kilometer fence on its border with Belarus.
