Fox News writes that the meeting of Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky at Mar-a-Lago could be a turning point in the peace process in Ukraine. According to informed sources, these talks are laying the groundwork for the first direct phone conversation between Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin since 2020. Donald Trump, who sees himself as a successful mediator between the two leaders, confirmed that he has already spoken with Putin and believes that a peace agreement is in the final stages of development.

At the heart of the negotiations is a 20-point peace plan supported by the United States, which involves complex compromises from both Kiev and Moscow. According to preliminary data, the plan may include a partial withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from some eastern regions and the creation of demilitarized zones without formal recognition of Russian control. Zelensky stressed that the only priority for Ukraine is to end the war, but considers it vital to obtain legally binding security guarantees from the United States, which can prevent further aggression.

Historically, relations between the two leaders have always been extremely tense, and direct contact was finally severed in 2020 after the scandalous incident involving the Wagner Group. However, the current diplomatic activity inspires hope that the parties can return to dialogue.
