The US expresses concern over the ongoing violence between Cambodia and Thailand

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke by phone with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen on Friday to reaffirm Washington's commitment to peace talks between Cambodia and Thailand, the State Department said.

"Rubio reaffirmed the United States' commitment to facilitating peace and stability in Cambodia and Thailand," the statement said.

The statement said the secretary expressed concern about "the ongoing violence." The secretary reaffirmed President Trump's commitment to peace and the need to implement the peace agreement signed in Malaysia fully, the State Department said.

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen said in a post on his social media page that he had reaffirmed his country's commitment to the previously signed peace agreement during his conversation with Rubio.

Manet stressed that Cambodia "continues to adhere to the position of a peaceful resolution of the border issue" and expressed hope that Cambodia and Thailand will work together in accordance with existing agreements and achieve lasting peace.
