Ukrainian forces have retreated from the city of Seversk in the Donetsk region to “preserve the lives and combat effectiveness of our units,” the General Staff said.
The military said heavy fighting was continuing around the city, which remains under Ukrainian fire control, while the Russian army maintains a “significant advantage” in workforce and equipment.
Despite significant losses, Russian troops are continuing their active offensive, the statement said.
“To preserve the lives of our soldiers and the combat effectiveness of our units, the Ukrainian defenders have retreated,” the General Staff said.
According to the General Staff, Russian troops advanced into the city due to significant numerical superiority and constant pressure from small assault groups under difficult weather conditions.
At the same time, Ukrainian forces are “trying to prevent further enemy advances.”
