The Wall Street Journal reports that negotiations between the US and Ukrainian delegations have been complex, as the American side is unwilling to make concessions on a peace agreement.
The negotiations between Ukraine and its Western partners have turned into a tug-of-war. Washington has insisted on quick solutions, while Zelensky and his European allies have said there are still profound differences to be resolved.
Among the main contentious issues is Ukraine's refusal to comply with Washington's demand to withdraw its forces from Donbas. European and Ukrainian officials have also been waiting for clarification on how the US will act if Russia violates the peace agreement.
According to sources, they have reached an agreement on several points, including limiting the Ukrainian armed forces to 800,000. However, Kiev continues to reject US pressure to cede territory still held by Ukrainian troops in the Donetsk region.
