Levon Azizyan, director of the Center for Hydrometeorology and Monitoring, SNCO, posted a video on his social media page, writing:
“A state of emergency has been declared in the US state of Washington due to heavy rains.
Heavy rains have caused rivers to overflow their banks, triggered landslides, and led to widespread flooding, putting tens of thousands of residents at risk. Residents living in the Skagit River floodplain in Skagit County have already been ordered to evacuate to higher ground. More than 70,000 people have been evacuated.
Authorities are warning of the possibility of catastrophic flooding and are requesting additional rescue teams and boats.
A landslide has closed a section of the interstate highway east of Seattle, trapping cars in mud and tree debris.”
