6.9 magnitude earthquake hits Japan

A 6.9-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Hokkaido, Aomori, Iwate, and Miyagi prefectures in Japan today. It triggered a temporary tsunami warning and alert.

The Japan Meteorological Agency said waves could reach up to 1 meter, but the warning has been canceled.
