The US wants to return Russia to the global economy

According to The Wall Street Journal, the U.S. plan to reintegrate Russia into the global economy is causing conflict with Europe.

The newspaper reports that unpublished annexes, which the US has shared with its European partners, describe the Trump administration’s plan to unfreeze Russian assets held in Europe and restore Moscow's political influence.

The documents detail plans by US financial companies and other organizations to use about $200 billion in frozen Russian assets for projects in Ukraine, including the construction of a new data center powered by the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant.

Another annex outlines the US’s overall vision for reviving the Russian economy. This plan would attract investment from US companies in strategic sectors, ranging from rare-earth metals mining to Arctic oil drilling.

It also plans to help restore Russian energy supplies to Western Europe and other countries.

The publication notes that some European officials who have reviewed the documents are unsure whether the US proposals should be taken seriously.

One official compared the plans to Trump’s announcement of a Riviera-style resort in Gaza.

Another compared the proposals to the 1945 Yalta Conference, hinting at a new division of Europe.
