US President Donald Trump has announced that the list of world leaders who will serve on the Gaza Peace Council will be announced in early 2026.
"Kings, presidents, prime ministers, everyone wants to be on the Peace Council. We'll announce the members next year. It's going to be one of the most legendary councils in history. Everyone wants to 'slide on that board,'" Trump joked.
The council is being created as part of Trump's plan for managing the situation in Gaza, which aims to maintain a fragile ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.
A UN Security Council resolution (drafted by the US) adopted on November 17 authorized the Peace Council and partner countries to establish a temporary International Stabilization Force in Gaza.
The resolution describes the council as a transitional administration that will determine the framework for Gaza's reconstruction, coordinate funding, and implement Trump's 20-point peace plan.
