Gunmen stormed a hotel in the capital of South Africa, killing at least 12 people, including a three-year-old child, and wounding dozens more. Ten people died at the scene, and two others were taken to the hospital. A 12-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl were also among the dead, The Guardian reports.
Police said they had launched an investigation into three people to determine whether the killings were linked to a bar inside the hotel that may have been selling alcohol illegally.
The country of 63 million people has one of the highest rates of mass murders.
According to police, more than 60 people were killed every day in South Africa from April to September.
