Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has appointed Major General Roman Gofman as the next head of Israel's foreign intelligence agency, the Mossad.
Gofman reportedly served as Netanyahu's military secretary and has no intelligence experience.
Gofman was born in Belarus in 1976 and moved to Israel at the age of 14. He joined the army's armored corps in 1995 and had a long military career.
Gofman was the commander of the National Infantry Training Center at the start of the Gaza War following the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack on Israel.
