Aliyev again spoke about the right of return and the cultural heritage of Azerbaijanis

The restoration and protection of Azerbaijani cultural heritage in Armenia is a legitimate demand of the Azerbaijani people and is necessary to respect universal values, put an end to hostilities, and promote mutual understanding between peoples.

According to the Azerbaijani state-run APA news agency, this was stated in President Ilham Aliyev’s address to the participants of the 3rd International Conference on “Cultural Heritage and the Right of Return: Restoration of the Cultural Heritage of Azerbaijanis Deported from Armenia as a Path to Justice, Reconciliation and Peace.”

Aliyev once again spoke about the so-called “Western Azerbaijani” community and its rights. According to him, this population includes people who have directly suffered from deportations and massacres.

“Today, it is important to intensify efforts to ensure the return of Azerbaijanis forcibly displaced from Armenia. After all, the right of return is a fundamental principle of human rights. Ensuring this right means not only physical return to the homeland, but also the restoration of spiritual integrity, cultural heritage, and the historical memory of society,” Aliyev stated.

According to Aliyev, the restoration and protection of Azerbaijani cultural heritage in Armenia, a legitimate demand of the Azerbaijani people, is necessary to respect universal values, close the page of hostility, and achieve mutual understanding between peoples.
