Germany signs the largest defense deal in history with Israel

Israel has delivered the Arrow 3 missile defense system to Germany in a ceremony at the Holzdorf air base south of Berlin, completing the country’s largest defense export deal in history.

The deal is worth 4 billion euros ($4.6 billion). It is the first time the Arrow 3 has been deployed outside the United States and Israel.

The system is based at Holzdorf Air Base, with additional deployments expected.

The Arrow 3 is designed to intercept ballistic missiles from outside the atmosphere. The sale of the system is part of the European Sky Shield initiative, aimed at strengthening Europe’s missile defenses in the wake of the Russia-Ukraine war.

Israel and Germany described the deal as part of growing defense cooperation that also includes joint exercises and the supply of the Israeli TROPHY active protection system for Leopard 2 tanks.
