Baku would like to see the EU involved in the Zangezur Corridor project, including within the EU Global Gateway initiative.
Hikmat Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and Head of the Foreign Policy Department of the Azerbaijani Presidential Administration, stated this in an interview with EU Today in Brussels.
“The Zangezur Corridor will transport 15 million tons of cargo annually. The construction of the Azerbaijani section of the corridor will be completed by 2026,” he said.
“The war is over for Azerbaijan, and the conflict is over. We must consolidate peace on the ground and make it long-lasting. Peace should not be just the absence of war, but should bring prosperity and development and build connectivity between neighbors,” Hajiyev emphasized.
In that context, he suggested that Armenia could transition from a deadlock to a transit country as east-west and north-south connections expand.
