Iberia, TAP Portugal, Gol, Latam, Avianca, and Turkish Airlines were banned from taking off or landing at Venezuelan airports after suspending flights to Caracas. In response, the Venezuelan government gave the carriers 48 hours to resume flights.
That ultimatum expired on Wednesday. In announcing the airlines’ flight ban, Venezuela’s civil aviation authority accused them of joining acts of state terrorism sponsored by the US government and of unilaterally suspending commercial air traffic.
