Chinese President Xi Jinping spoke by phone with US President Donald Trump, China Central Television reported.
The two leaders discussed the Ukrainian crisis, among other issues. Xi stressed support for all efforts to achieve peace. He also expressed hope that the parties would continue to “smooth out their differences” and that a “just, lasting and binding” peace agreement would be signed as soon as possible to “address the root cause of this crisis.”
Xi Jinping also noted that China-US relations have generally stabilized and improved since their meeting in Busan last month. He said that China and the US “both benefit from cooperation and lose from confrontation.”
The Chinese leader also clarified Beijing’s position on Taiwan, noting that the island’s return to China is “an important part of the post-war international order.”
