We have no choice: Iranian President on moving the capital

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian believes it is necessary to move the capital from Tehran due to overcrowding and water shortages, the IRNA news agency reported on Thursday.

“We have no alternative. This is a necessity,” he said, explaining that if Tehran’s population continues to grow, it will be impossible to provide water to all residents.

The Iranian president stressed that water shortages are a problem not only in Tehran but also in several provinces across the country.

Over the past five years, Iran has seen a steady decline in rainfall. According to local meteorological services, this year’s rainfall in Tehran is 40% below normal.
