According to Reuters sources, Keith Kellogg, the US president's special envoy for Ukraine, has told his entourage that he plans to leave the administration in January. His departure would mean the loss of a key supporter for Kiev.
Kellogg's departure will be met with displeasure in Kiev. The retired lieutenant general was seen by European diplomats, including Ukrainian representatives, as a figure willing to listen to their concerns in an administration that has counterbalanced Moscow's position on some issues.
Reuters also reports that the United States told Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Wednesday that Kiev should accept a framework document for ending the war proposed by Washington.
It involves Ukraine giving up some territory and giving up some of its weapons. The package also includes a reduction in Ukraine's armed forces, which would be a severe setback for Kyiv.
