Israeli airstrike kills dozens in southern Lebanon

An Israeli airstrike killed at least 13 people in the Ein el-Hilweh Palestinian refugee camp in southern Lebanon.

Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency reported that a drone struck a car parked in the parking lot of the camp’s mosque near the coastal city of Sidon on Tuesday.

The ministry said at least four people were injured in the attack, adding that “ambulances continue to transport the injured to nearby hospitals.”

Israel said the strike targeted Hamas members operating in a training center in the refugee camp.

“When we say we will not tolerate any threat to our northern border, this applies to all terrorist groups operating in the region,” Israeli military spokesman Avichai Adraei said in a statement in Arabic. “We will continue to resolutely oppose Hamas’ attempts to consolidate itself in Lebanon and eliminate its elements that threaten our security.”

Hamas denied the Israeli statement, calling it a “fabrication” and stressing that the group does not have training bases in Lebanese refugee camps.
