Tom Cruise receives an honorary Oscar

Tom Cruise was honored with an honorary Oscar at the Governors Awards in Los Angeles on November 16. The award was presented to him by director Alejandro González Iñárritu, with whom Cruise is currently starring in a new film (set for release in October 2026). The 62-year-old actor gave a moving speech.

He has been nominated for four Oscars to date: Best Actor (Born on the Fourth of July, Jerry Maguire), Best Supporting Actor (Magnolia), and Best Producer (Top Gun: Maverick), but has never won.

Choreographer Debbie Allen and production designer Win Thomas also received honorary Oscars that evening. The Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award went to Dolly Parton.
