BBC apologizes to Trump, but won't offer compensation

The BBC has apologised to US President Donald Trump for a Panorama documentary that edited parts of his speech. However, the broadcaster has rejected the president's demands for compensation.

The broadcaster has also said it will not rerun the programme.

Trump's lawyers have threatened to sue the BBC for $1 billion unless the broadcaster retracts the statement, apologizes, and pays compensation.

"BBC lawyers have written to President Trump's legal team in response to the letter they received on Sunday," a BBC spokesman said.

BBC chairman Samir Shah has also written a personal letter to the White House, stating that he and the broadcaster regret the editing of the president's speech on January 6, 2021.

The British Broadcasting Corporation will no longer air "Trump. "Second Chance" documentary.
