Trump signs the budget, ends the longest US shutdown

The US House of Representatives voted in favor of the budget bill, and President Donald Trump signed it. Thus, after a 43-day shutdown, the longest in the country's history, the Federal Government will resume work.

The temporary budget was submitted to the President for signature late Wednesday evening, after 222 members of the House of Representatives voted in favor of the bill.

It is worth noting that the budget bill was also approved by the US Senate earlier.

In the House of Representatives, the Republican Party currently holds 219 seats, while the Democratic Party has 214 (a total of 433 seats, with two seats still vacant). Therefore, a simple majority is 217 votes.

However, four congressmen were absent from the session on Wednesday evening - three Republicans and one Democrat. As a result, the threshold required for the adoption of the budget was reduced to 215 votes, which allowed the bill to pass.

The document was approved not only thanks to the support of 216 Republicans, but also 6 Democrats.

At the same time, two Republican congressmen voted against the bill.

After President Trump signs the temporary budget, the government will resume its work. And thus, the most prolonged blockade in US history will end.

Note that the previous record blockade also occurred during Donald Trump's first term as President.
