Bloomberg reports that the United States is considering building a military base near the Gaza Strip that could house up to 10,000 personnel.
The US Navy has reportedly asked several companies to evaluate the possibility of building a “temporary, self-contained military base” near the Gaza Strip that could house up to 10,000 personnel for 12 months.
The article states that the contractors would be required to build the base on a turnkey basis and then provide services such as electricity, food, and communications.
An anonymous source also told the agency that the US military’s request is a step towards preliminary planning for the creation of a base for an international stabilization force.
A day earlier, the Israeli Ynet reported that the US plans to build a large military base worth $500 million on the Gaza-Israel border. If the project is implemented, the base will reportedly become the first large-scale American military facility in Israel.
