Former Georgian official arrested in connection with bridge collapse

Levan Kupatashvili, the former deputy head of the country's "Road Department", has been arrested in connection with the collapse of a bridge under construction on the Samtredia-Grigoleti highway in Georgia.

According to the prosecutor's office, his actions resulted in more than 16 million lari (approximately $5.8 million) in damage to the state budget. The former official faces up to 11 years in prison.

Recall that part of the bridge under construction over the Rioni River collapsed on February 21, 2023.
